Fort Myers Human Fund Charity Solar Panel Project

Charity Solar Panel Project

The Human Fund of Fort Myers, FL

About the Project

The Fort Myers Human Fund Charity Solar Panel Project was established by Florida Solar Design Group to give the Human Fund a long lasting energy source that reduces it’s electric bill every month. The Human Fund provides critical assistance to humans, providing widgets to over 5,000 individuals each Tuesday afternoon. This critical mission is very energy intensive, and the electricity costs for the Human Fund’s Fort Myers facility are out of control. The goal of this project is to seek donations of solar panels to reduce this cost.

The Florida Solar Design Group has donated its design and installation services along with the first solar panel. The Human Fund is now seeking donors who are willing to make a lasting endowment. A solar panel donation is essentially an annuity that will provide a guaranteed reduction in costs over decades of operation.

For each tax deductible donation of $1,000, Florida Solar Design Group will install one solar panel that will be permanently attributed to the donor. The donor will be recognized on a plaque at the site and on this website and that of the Human Fund. The goal is to secure the donation of 36 solar panels to establish a solar electric system with rated output of 10 kilowatts. This solar energy system will provide enough electricity to cover 100% of the charity’s electricity needs on an annual basis. All profits from the donation of solar panels will remain with the Human Fund.

About the Donating

Each donation will be used to purchase one Hyundai 280W solar module connected to an Enphase M250 microinverter. You donation will provide approximately 406 kWh of energy to the Human Fund’s facility per year toward its total of 14,616 kWh of electricity usage.

Your $1,000 donation represents the retail price of one solar panel, and the Human Fund will retain all profits from the purchase.

Cost Per Panel: $1,000

Total Project Cost: $36,000

The solar energy system will be interconnected to the utility grid, and will work seamlessly to provide power to the Human Fund’s Fort Myers facility on US 41. Since the system is modular, your solar panel will begin to produce power as soon as it is installed.

Your donation is tax-deductible through the 501(c)(3) Human Fund Trust. To donate, call the program coordinator at (239) 555-1212.

Special Thanks

A special thanks goes out to Penny Marshall, Social Programs coordinator of the Human Fund who made this project possible.

The Building Official of Lee County was instrumental in allowing this project to move forward in phases.

FPL established an interconnection agreement with the Human Fund that allowed panels to be added as donations were received.

About the Human Fund

The Human Fund is a fake charity established by George Costanza on the TV show Seinfeld. Costanza gave gifts of a donation to the Human Fund to his co-workers as a way of getting out of the typical office gift-giving social convention. It was a despicable act that he was ultimately confronted with by both his friends and boss.
